CHILD CARE: AFTERSCHOOL CARE LEAD & ASSISTANT TEACHERS - Marshfield Center

Hours: 2023-2024 School Year. Monday-Friday, 2:30-6:00 pm
Pay: $14 per hour, includes a YMCA membership.
Duties/Responsibilities: Afterschool Leads and Assistants work with children ages 5-12 and oversee the afterschool care program at various site locations. Supervise and interact with children in a group setting, providing various activity, guiding positive behaviors, and ensuring a caring and safe environment. Maintain positive relationships with parents, children, and fellow staff. Instill Y Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Requirements: Meet qualifications for a lead or assistant per DCF 251- Licensing Rules for Group Child Care Center. Applicants who do not obtain these courses are encouraged to apply, the Y does provide coursework to complete these requirements. Students who plan to pursue Early Childhood, Education, or any related field are encouraged to apply to gain real-world experience working with children.

CHILD CARE: ASSISTANT CHILD CARE TEACHER - Marshfield Center

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Working with the Lead Child Care Teacher, the primary responsibility of the Assistant Child Care Teacher is to make a difference in the lives of your children and families. Assistant Teachers are critical to the success of our child care program. You will assist the Lead Teacher in all aspects of the care of the children. This includes: implementing curriculum, actively interacting with the children, monitoring activities to ensure safety, nurturing the children through encouragement and gentle redirection, assisting in classroom set-up, clean-up and maintenance. Most important of all, you must have a passion for working with children. This position requires creativity, flexibility, high energy levels, patience, strong organizational skills, problem-solving skills, and demonstrated success as a team player. You must be able to easily move through all areas of the child care rooms and communicate effectively verbally and in written form with children and adults. You must be able to routinely go up and down stairs, lift, carry and load equipment, furnishings, and program supplies (up to 50 pounds).
Education Level Desired: Candidates should have a minimum of a high school diploma and the ability to meet state requirements for education and experience as required by Wisconsin Department of Children and Families. We are willing to work with individuals that are in the process of completing their requirements. Candidates must also be 18 years of age or older.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Child Care Teacher at the Marshfield Area YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Planning and implementing age-appropriate and exciting classroom curriculum that actively engages the children, keeping the children safe while building independent problem-solving skills.
• Nurturing the children through encouragement and gentle redirection.
• Maintaining a clean, orderly and inviting classroom full of activity choices, and building relationships with their family members.
• Follows all procedures and standards as established by the law or the Marshfield Area YMCA.
• Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.
• Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
• Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress; conducts parent/caregiver conferences; connects families to the Y.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Child Care Program Director,

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
