Welcome-You Belong!
On behalf of the YMCA Wellness Director, Program Coordinators, and Fitness Coaches, you are extended a sincere welcome to the YMCA Center for Total Health. The Center for Total Health staff is here to serve your needs during all hours of operation.

Age Requirements
Participants must be 15 years of age to use the facilities at any time. Teens (ages 12-14) who are Future Force graduates also have full use of the facilities at any time. Teens (ages 12-14) who have not completed Future Force may use the Fitness Centers during the designated teen times - 3:00pm to 4:30pm, Monday-Friday, with special summer hours TBA.

Fitness clothing should be comfortable and allow for unrestricted movement. Footwear must be clean, close-toed, and have non-marking soles. No denim or cutoffs. No offensive and/or inappropriate clothing may be worn in the YMCA. The midriff must be covered unless in the pool (i.e. Men should not be shirtless and women must wear an appropriately fitted shirt over sports bras).

Cell phones are prohibited in the Wellness and Strength Centers. Cell phone use is restricted to the front lobby and reception area.

Code of Conduct
The Marshfield Area YMCA is founded on Christian principles and prohibits inappropriate behavior and conduct. This includes, but is not limited to, profanity or abuse language or attire, smoking, use of alcohol or drugs, the removal of YMCA property and criminal conduct of any type. The code is proudly posted in the YMCA entry.

Orientation
Fitness Coaches will be available for orientations during most hours of operation. Please sign up at the Member Welcome Center. The orientation will cover the proper use of the cardiovascular and strength training equipment. It will take approximately 1 hour. Please wear exercise attire. Staff will also be available to design or change your exercise program based on your needs and fitness goals. We really care about you!

Broadcast Vision
Members should bring a headset with an FM radio to tune into the television broadcasts. TV’s will display closed caption only. No radio equipment is sold at the YMCA.

Equipment Reservation
You must reserve cardiovascular exercise equipment in 30-minute intervals. Sign up sheets are located just inside the center. Detailed sign-up guidelines are located on the back of this pamphlet. You must be dressed and ready to work out when you sign up.

General Wellness Center Policies:
  • No gym bags, coats, etc., are allowed in the Wellness Center. Please use lockers, and keep items locked up at all times.
  • Use equipment sign-in sheets where required.
  • Clean tennis shoes should be worn at all times
  • Please wipe down equipment after use by spraying cleaner on the paper towels provided. Do not spray cleaner directly on equipment.
  • Please return all weight equipment to their proper rack.
  • Return all magazines to the magazine rack.
  • The YMCA will announce the building closing 15 minutes before actual closing time.

  • Group Exercise Class Information:
When is the best time to begin a class? It is best to begin a group class at the beginning of a new session, especially if you are new to class. Group Exercise classes traditionally run on a 7-week session time frame with the exception of summer, which is 10 weeks. Session dates and registration dates are always listed in the YMCA’s current program guide. Each class has a specific size limit, and enrollment for members signing up late cannot be guaranteed. Members have the opportunity of registering first, so take advantage of this to save your spot.

What is the cost to participate in a class?
All of the current class prices will be listed in our program guide. Members pay much less as a benefit of their membership. Classes either meet once a week, twice a week, or three times each week.

What if I can only make the class once a week? Do you prorate?
We do not prorate classes for anyone who cannot make all days for which the class runs. When you register you are taking a slot in the class and we look at class numbers often to see if the class can run, or if the class is full, and to pay our instructors (even if you are not there we have to pay the instructors). For all of these reasons, we do not prorate for specific class days.

I am going to be gone for a few weeks, can I prorate for the time I am gone?
The only time we prorate the cost of a class is if someone is joining half way into the 7-week session. If you will be gone midway through the session, we will not prorate the cost of the class. Again it is because you are taking a slot in a class and we need to monitor the numbers in each class.

How do I know what class to take?
This is a very personal question so what you need to do is look at what you like to do, what are your goals, and what times do you have available. All classes are listed with a description in the program guide and will indicate what the class involves, the time, and also if it is for a beginner or advanced exerciser. For more specific information, please contact Molly Michalek, Group Exercise Coordinator, at 387-4900 or ymca_mmichalek@charter.net.

Can I drop into a class without registering for it (try a class out)?
If there is space available, you can drop into a class by purchasing a Drop-in Pass at Member Services. The rate for members is $4.00 and the rate for participants is $12.00. You will then need to give the drop-in pass to the instructor.

    What do I wear?
Comfortable workout clothing is always best for any class. Comfortable tennis shoes (not your outdoor shoes) are recommended for classes.

If I am sick and miss a class, can I make it up?
You are allowed to make a class up by dropping into another class that fits your needs and schedule, if there is room. Simply let the instructor know what class you are registered for and let them know you are making up a missed class. It is recommended that you drop into a class that you are familiar with, or one that is similar to what you are taking so that you feel comfortable with the class content.

    Walking Track
Walk clockwise on even calendar dates. Walk counter-clockwise on odd calendar dates. Sixteen (16) laps = 1 mile. Access to track is from the lower level of the YMCA only.

    Emergency Procedures
  • Report any injury or emergency situation to a Fitness Coach or YMCA staff.
  • Complete an Incident Report if requested.
  • Automated External Defibrillator on site.

  • Equipment Malfunctions or Cleanliness Issues
Please report any equipment malfunctions to a Fitness Coach. We will address any equipment concerns promptly.

    Personal Fitness Program
This is a free 12-week program for our members, during which you will meet four times, one-on-one, with a Fitness Coach to help get you back in the habit of focused and organized exercise. Your Coach will help you determine your goals and design a training program to help you meet them.

    Cardio Equipment Sign-Up Guidelines
    1. You may sign up and remain on one machine for NO MORE THAN ONE 30 MINUTE slot.

    2. If, after your 30 minutes, you choose to do more time on that same machine or to use another piece, you must get off and check the sign-in sheets for other reservations. If no one is signed up to use the machine you were on or another machine you would like to use, you may sign up for a new 30-minute time slot.

    3. What about signing up between the half-hour slots? For example: You arrive at 6:15 and sign up for treadmill #1 for the 6:30 slot, but you would like to start your workout immediately, you can sign up for the 6:00 slot on any UNUSED piece of equipment and use the remaining 15 minutes on that piece of equipment.

      Example:
      Treadmill #1 6:00-6:30 Bob Smith (secondary sign-up)
      Treadmill #1 6:30-7:00 Bob Smith (primary sign-up)
Even though Bob came in at 6:15, he may use the remainder of the 6:00 to 6:30 time slot since it is NOT being used.

    4. If you use less than 30 minutes, please erase or cross out your name on the sign-up sheet so others can sign up and use the remainder of that time. FORFEITURE: IF YOU HAVE NOT ARRIVED WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF YOUR SCHEDULED START YOU WILL FORFEIT YOUR MACHINE. (See Wellness Coach with any problems.)

    5. Please get in the habit of signing up at all times of the day. Even if there are multiple pieces of equipment open, we still need to track usage for maintenance purposes. Prime times for peak YMCA use are 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Outside of these times, you will find ample opportunity for extended exercise on the equipment.
