FACILITY USAGE GUIDELINES:
When Visiting the YMCA
- To enter the YMCA alone, individuals must be 12 years old. Youth between the ages of 9-11 must be
accompanied by a parent or guardian 16 years or older.
- Children under the age of 9 must be enrolled in a program or under constant adult supervision at
all times. (Not left to wander.)
- All members and guests must adhere to the YMCA code of conduct.
- Code of Conduct: The YMCA is committed to providing a Christian atmosphere that
ensures the highest respect and courtesy toward one another, a healthy environment and proper use,
maintenance and care of YMCA property and equipment.
- A smoke and drug free environment.
- An environment free of verbal abuse, swearing, and fighting.
- An environment that shows respect for property of other members, staff, and YMCA.
- An environment that respects staff members and guests and is free from verbal or physical
harassment for any reason.
- An environment free from inappropriate sexual behavior and with no registered sex offenders
present.
- Cell phones and cell phone cameras are prohibited from being in locker room. Please use cell
phones in discreet ways so as not to disturb others.
AWAY Program
- "Always Welcome At the YMCA." If you are traveling and wish to use the facility and services
at a YMCA in another city, your YMCA membership is valid at over 2,000 YMCAs nationwide on a
short term basis (a nominal fee may apply). A list of YMCAs participating in the AWAY program is
available at the Welcome Center.
Birthday Parties (For Kids)
- See program brochure for more information or web site on rates and arranging details.
Cancellations Due to Weather
- Youth Sports: The YMCA reserves the right to cancel one class per session due to inclement weather without makeup or refund.
- Swim Lessons: The YMCA reserves the right to cancel one swim lesson per session due to pool closings that would deem your child unsafe to swim. No credit will be given. Additional cancellations during the same session will be credited or made up.
- All cancellations are submitted to WDLB am radio.
Cellular Phones
- Cell phones and camera phones are prohibited in all areas of the YMCA. Cell phone use is restricted to the front lobby and reception area only.
Child Watch
- A fee-based service provided for children ages 6 weeks to 9 years while a parent remains in YMCA to exercise.
- Hours vary - visit our center for specific hours/fees.
- Members using babysitting must be present in the building!
Elevator
- The elevator is available to those with special needs. It is locked at all times and keys must be checked out from Member Services.
Family Fitness Exercise Hours
- Youth ages 11-14 may participate in a Family Fitness Program with a parent or guardian. The parent or guardian must be exercising with the youth and be in constant eye contact of youth for supervision. A great way for your family to be active together and building a stronger relationship!

- Wellness Center guidelines are posted in the Wellness Center.
- Please report any problems to Y staff immediately.
- Free disposable sweat towels are provided - please wipe off each piece of equipment you use.
- See a Wellness Center Coach or stop at Welcome Center to set up free fitness appointments to tailor a program to your specific needs.
- Wear comfortable clothes when exercising. Most members wear a T-shirt and shorts and athletic shoes. Some will wear sweat pants and a long sleeve T-shirt. Always wear athletic foot wear.
Family Fun Zone (Play Area)
- Parents and their children 2 - 8 years will enjoy playing together on the equipment!
- Free to members only.
- Open during regular facility hours.
- Parents must be in the room with the child to provide supervision for safety purposes.
- Report any unsupervised children to the Welcome Center.
Gladiator Island Slide
- Youth must wear a life vest if they are not able to pass the swim test. They must also remain in the shallow area.
- Open during select family nights and designated Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
- Can be rented for birthday parties or civic groups.
- Lifeguards will go over Gladiator usage guidelines.
Group Exercise Center
- You must pre-register for all classes or purchase a drop-in ticket for classes where space is available.
- Classes are scheduled throughout the week - see our schedule on the website or you may obtain a copy at the Welcome Center.
- We offer many different classes - including indoor cycling, yoga, and many more.
- An age limit of 13 is imposed in our fitness classes. Parental supervision and/or a doctor’s referral may be requested.
Gymnasium
- Used for specific set programs and additional time allocated for open usage for members (basketball, walking,
volleyball, floor hockey, and group exercise classes).
- See gym schedule for open gym times. Also visit www.mfldymca.org for other schedules.
Locker Rooms
- The Y provides locker rooms for boys, men, girls, and women.
- Must be 16 years to use adult locker rooms where dry saunas are present.
- Adults with children under 5 years must use the same gender youth locker room when taking in young child to
supervise the child. (i.e., a mother will use girl’s locker room to change her 4-year old son).
- Special Needs Locker Room-this fully contained locker room can serve anyone or a family wishing privacy. You
will need to lock both doors entering this room and leaving them unlocked when exiting to use the YMCA. Lockers
are available in this area for personal belongings; please bring a lock with you to place on the locker. The
YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
*Locks left on day-use lockers will be removed and contents stored for 30 days, after which time will be
donated. Valuables cannot be accepted for safekeeping at the Welcome Center.
For your convenience, items available for purchase at the YMCA include: locks, towels, swim diapers some toiletry items.
- We DO NOT supply towels for showering - please bring your own.
- We do provide a limited number of lockers that can be rented annually. See Welcome Center for rates.
Parking/Drop Zone
- Handicap parking is available and special assistance is available to enter building - see staff for details.
- The circle drive in front of the building is for dropping off participants only. You may not leave your vehicle
unattended or parked waiting for individuals to exit YMCA.
- No parking is permitted in the YMCA parking lot overnight. Contact Facility Director with car problems. (if jumper cables are needed)
Pool Contamination Statement
- The YMCA will close the swimming pool due to any incident of water contaminations. The pool will remain closed
until all contaminants have been treated and eliminated. This process could take up to 24 hours.
- Do not use the pool if you or your child has had diarrhea in the previous two (2) weeks.
- Shower your child and yourself before entering the pool.
- Do not rinse diaper-aged children in the pool before, during, or after diaper changes.
- Assist young children in making frequent visits to the bathroom to minimize accidents.
- Wash hands correctly by using soap and warm water following a trip to the bathroom or changing a child’s diaper.
Pools in W.D. Connor Aquatic Center
- Our W.D. Connor Aquatic Center includes: large Olympic-sized pool, small training pool, and whirlpool.
- Youth age 6 and under must be accompanied in the water with a parent/guardian.
- Youth age 7-9 must have a parent/guardian in the pool area.
- Youth age 10-11, who can swim, may swim unaccompanied while a parent/guardian remains in the YMCA building.
Sex Offender Policy
- Any convicted and/or registered sex offender is not permitted on the premises or involved in any YMCA program.
Teen Activity Center
- Designated facility space for youth ages 12 -18 years.
- Families may also use the center during designated hours - parent must be with their child to use Center.
- Some games require coins.
- Free to YMCA members and paid guests.
Teen Fitness Usage Hours
- Ages 12-14 may use the Fitness Centers during the designated times - 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday. Teen
summer fitness center hours are Monday-Friday 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm. (hours subject to change).
Walking/Running Track
- Must be 12 years old to be on the track.
- Ages 6-11 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian (within 15 feet).
- No children under 6 permitted on track. Families may use gymnasium for exercise to simulate the track distance.
- 16 laps equals one mile.
- Track guidelines indicate daily direction change for user.
- Strollers are not permitted on the track.
Wellness Center/Lower level Strength Center and Women’s Only Express Workout Center
- Must be 15 years old to use fitness equipment in any location.
- See Welcome Center for orientation information and fitness programs and to schedule an appointment with a Wellness coach.
Water Slides (Splash Zone)
- Must be a minimum of 48 inches tall. Smaller children must wear a life jacket (provided) and have a
parent in the water to assist child after exiting slide flume.
- See pool schedule or Welcome Center for slide times (seasonal schedules).
Water Temperature
- Large Pool 82-84 range
- Small Pool 87-89 range
- Whirlpool 100-103 range (Must be 15 to use and please adhere to usage guidelines listed at whirlpool) Those under 15
may be permitted use on specific Family Nights as scheduled.
