For the past 3-4 years, Dianne has been a regular at the YMCA. Due to a few health issues, she made a decision to view working out at the YMCA as her job; following an exercise plan each day whether she felt like it or not. Since making that decision, she is seeing her health issues resolve and has lost more than 60 pounds. Besides working out on her own in the Fitness Center, Dianne attends classes and credits the instructors as well as classmates and Y staff with being informative and encouraging.

Walter joined the YMCA in 2004, six weeks after his 80th birthday. Barring doctor visits, Walter is at the Y five days a week walking up to 2 miles a day on the treadmill. The Y exercise, along with meds, keeps his diabetes in check. He has a monthly average blood sugar count of 89; the past 3 months he had a high count of 121. Besides the diabetes, Walter has survived two heart attacks, a stroke and has a pacemaker. At a recent physical, his doctor concluded that Walter is doing "extremely well."

Michelle wanted to start exercising again and when the YMCA ran a New Year’s Day special in 2006 she joined. At the same time, she signed up for the free 12-week Personal Fitness Program, which she found to be a great way to ease back into an exercise routine. After becoming comfortable with the equipment, she went to the personal trainer program for a little more push, “someone to crack the whip and give instruction and direction.” At her annual physical, she was happy to discover that she had lost some weight and best of all was able to eventually get off high blood pressure meds.
