Marshfield Clinic Health System YMCA Celebrates Grand Opening with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Tuesday, October 08, 2019

The Marshfield Clinic Health System YMCA celebrated the completion of its expansion and renovation with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house on Tuesday, July 16, 2019.

As a charitable organization, the Y’s cause is to strengthen community. The expansion of the Marshfield Clinic Health System YMCA will help the organization accommodate community growth, serving individuals and families in search of well-being while forging strategic partnerships to help the Y carry out its mission.

The newly constructed state-of-the-art facility includes a Healthy Living Center (with 24/7access), Strength Training Center, Fieldhouse, Walking/Running Track, Multi-Generational Community Room, Welcome Center, and Member Lounge. Many areas of the existing Y were renovated as part of the project including group exercise rooms, the Child Watch area and Youth & Family Lounge.

“We’re particularly excited to celebrate the revitalization of this YMCA because it brings to fruition the goals of the 2016 partnership between the Marshfield Area YMCA and Marshfield Clinic Health System, which is to ensure all people we serve have access to the range of programs and services that improve people’s health and curb the spread of chronic disease through preventive health efforts. Sharing resources, core competencies and unique strengths, we intend to make a significant impact on critical health issues throughout Wood, Clark, and Marathon counties,” said John Nystrom, CEO of the Marshfield Area YMCA. “This vital facility expansion would not be possible without the vision and leadership of our Board of Directors, the support of our donors, the collaboration of our partners, and the hard work of our staff. Today the Y is stronger than ever and poised to continue to serve this vibrant community for years to come.”

“For our Health System, partnering with the YMCA on this project was an obvious choice,” said Dr. Susan Turney, CEO of Marshfield Clinic Health System. “Our organizations share a common commitment to the health and well-being of those we serve, and we both have a history of giving back to our communities. We know that by expanding the programming, resources and overall facilities available here, we are making a profound impact on the health and well-being of the Marshfield area.”

Community leaders, donors, project partners, YMCA volunteers and members were on hand at the ribbon cutting ceremony to demonstrate their commitment to the Y’s cause. Led by emcee, Scott Larson, Executive Director of the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce, event speakers included Bob McManus, Mayor, City of Marshfield; Melissa Breen, representing the Board President of the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce; Chris Laurent, Sr. Vice President of Business Development/President, Building Blocks, Cinnaire; James Simmons, Vice President of Community Development Banking-New Markets Tax Credit Group, Chase Bank; David G.
